He began imagining a book that would include his food memories from his native Veneto and the produce of Mildura. Stefan’s Restaurant became the recipient of many prestigious awards and continues to seduce the encourage of many patrons. Stefan and sonata remain a family tradition in hospitality with the hope of providing variety and interest for residents and the many visitors who arrive to Mildura. In 1991, it commenced as a very simple affair with bare wooden tables, a basic blackboard menu and paper napkins. Stefan, busy in partnership with his wife, sonata, began to prepare traditional, rustic Italian fare, similar to the cooking he grew up with in the Veneto region of Italy. Diners would peruse the menu but were delighted to take up Stefan’s suggestions that he simply feed them what he had prepared for the day. This style of dining with a set price per person and an element of surprise became synonymous with eating at Stefan’s. The restaurant and Stefan have been bestowed with abundant awards and continue to lure diners from all over. Today, the restaurant is divided into three parts. The corridor, which dates back to 188, links these chilly rooms’ and is lined with tables for single or couple diners and an array of art work and memorabilia from Stefan’s collection.
